Therapy for Young Adults

Entering young adulthood in today’s world does not come without challenges. We are living in an age of instant information, external validation and pressure to succeed. There are so many changes that occur during this period that may be overwhelming. Young adults have greater access to educational options (to go to college or not), and more opportunities in general now than ever before, which means that the expectations regarding what to do after high school are not as clear-cut.

You may feel pressured to make lifelong decisions before you are ready, which can cause increased anxiety and worry about the future. Your beliefs and values held throughout childhood may be questioned as you start your career, or join new social circles. You may find yourself worrying that you haven’t hit certain “milestones” or goals in your desired timeframe, or find that your self-esteem is at an all-time low.

Other reasons why young adults seek therapy:

-You are going through a major life transition and are feeling “stuck” or unsure how to move forward. You may be feeling lost and seeking passion or fulfillment

-You are overwhelmed with life’s responsibilities, economic uncertainty and student debt,

-You are struggling to find meaning in this new stage of life, or are experiencing feelings of hopelessness

-You are experiencing relationship issues

-You are experiencing social media anxiety, or struggling with insecurity in general

If any of these issues sound familiar, therapy can help.  As a licensed therapist, I provide a space to talk openly about these life changes, learn how to identify and change negative thought patterns and feelings, as well as work towards personal goals.

What you can expect in therapy:

During our initial session, I will gather information about your biological, psychological and social history, and ask you questions about your current situation. We will discuss goals and what you hope to get out of therapy.

In the subsequent sessions,  I will provide a safe space for your to process any issues you are experiencing, and I will teach you skills to help manage symptoms that you may be experiencing which are getting in the way of your self-discovery and personal growth. If you are experiencing anxiety or depression, I will teach you how to manage these symptoms with evidence-based treatments.
